“Then the LORD said, “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by.” Ex 33:21-22 (NIV)
In the rock I hide! From what do I hide? Do I wish to escape the suffering of life? I run from past hurts into the cleft of the rock where there is refuge—a place to hide?
No one escapes the pain of living in a sinful world; a world full of heartache and sorrow. But what joy for those who escape into the cleft of the rock. I lift my voice in praise there is a place near the Lord where we can stand in His protection; a place where I am hidden beneath His hand of mercy.
My friend, you are not alone in the storms of life. Our Lord has prepared a shelter just for you where He stands guard over you. In the cleft of the rock you are safe. You are safe from the cares of the world drowning you, safe from losing all hope, and safe from living a life without love.
“God is bedrock under my feet, the castle in which I live, my rescuing knight. My God—the high crag where I run for dear life, hiding behind the boulders,
safe in the granite hideout.”
Psalms 18:2 (MSG)
He alone provides a safe place to run to. The world may disappoint you or reject you but with God we have a safe place in which we can trust that He is ever faithful and loving.
